Declan and his clutch mate Dorian (NN) were an energetic pair of chicks, unlike their neighbours who spent all day sleeping! Once he grew older Declan spent a lot of time wading in the pond, searching for insects.
At release, true to his energetic nature, shot out of the pre-release aviary and was observed flying off into the distance by the team, unlike the rest of the group who casually walked out. This was an impressive first flight as he continued all the way to the coast at Thornham where he has resided since.

28/10/24
Declan has stayed at Thornham marsh and occasionally can be seen at Freshwater Marsh at RSPB Titchwell.

27/1/25
On the 11th November Declan left Thornham Marsh and over two days made his way along the coast to the marsh at Gedney Drove End where he stayed for a month before returning back to Thornham.
